When I signed up with Orcon they charged me $15 shipping cost for sending me their modem. Which was perfectly fine as they advised me about it when I signed up. Then after a while the modem broke, and they sent a new one. And now they're again charging me $15 for shipping cost of the replacement modem as well. I don't believe this is fair, because:1) it wasn't my fault the first modem broke2) nobody ever advised me there would be a shipping charge for replacement modems (in fact, when the technical fault ticket was opened I was specifically advised I would be notified of any potential charges, and I wasn't) Also, the reason I'm writing this here on GZ is because I hope to get some attention sooner than Orcon's email support, which has a response time of 7 days (probably the worst on the planet).

Thinking to get the 4000/4000 hyperfiber plan, what's your experience?
Hi all Recently hyperfibre just became available in my premise. I am thinking of getting it but I have to choose between My Republic and Orcon. Since My Republic has an extremely bad reputation in the Geekzone forum, I just want to ask if anyone has hyperfibre through Orcon and kind enough to share with me their experience. Is the speed reliable and what's Orcon like (I am with spark at the moment)? Lastly, with the Nokia ONT that comes with the installation, should I still keep my current router or potentially get a WiFI mesh system? Thank you

Orcon UFB with Mikrotik and WIFI Router
Hi guys. I have UFB from Orcon and I'm using a Mikrotik with a WIFI Router.I have followed this article on how to setup the mikrotik part, which is working fine (apparently). My problem is with my Smart Android TV. It is connected via cable to my Router - which is in Bridge mode - but I am not able to access Youtube nor browse the internet. Netflix works!Plugging my laptop to the same router via cable, everything works! I'm quite confused here. Any suggestions, please? Cheers,Lucas

Stuff Fibre Xbox One NAT type unavailable - cannot resolve
Hi there,I was with Vodafone using Fibre and had no issues using my Xbox One and my NAT was always open. I recently moved house and changed providers to Stuff Fibre and since then my NAT is showing as 'Unavailable' and I'm getting the error "Cannot get a Teredo IP address".I'm using the standard router provided by Stuff (Asus RT-AC59U V2) and connected via ethernet cable. I did also try on WIFI with the same issue.I have tried a number of things to resolve it including:- Port forwarding all Xbox suggested ports- Binding IP address to my Xbox MAC address- Turning off IPv6 (now set to "Tunnelling")- Turning off UPnP and then back on- Updating router firmware (now version 3.0.0.4.386_21649-g7401a04)- Turned off router firewalls- Tried using DMZI have managed to get it open on about 3 occasions (in the evenings) and then in the morning its unavailable again (not changed anything on my end).Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as Stuff Fibre Support, Xbox Support and Asus Support all so far have been unhelpful and pretty much suggesting standard troubleshooting I have already tried, or telling me to call each other. Thanks in advanceEvan

Running a reverse proxy behind an Orcon router
Hi everyone long time reader, first time poster... I am running a HTPC built on Docker behind my Orcon fibre router with a reverse proxy. I can access the sites just fine from the internet (see jelly.taft.house) and the reverse proxy + SSL encryption works perfectly. However, from my LAN the router is directing me straight to my local resource so it misses the reverse proxy and Chrome blocks access to the site due to an invalid cert. Does anyone know the setting in the router to send LAN traffic out of the network to hit a DNS before coming back so the connection is properly encrypted? Thanks and feel free to move this to another thread if it belongs in a better home.

Move house order complete - but still stuck in old address due to move delay.
Hey guys, I had a move house order complete with orcon which I was informed by email and txt was completed today. I am however still at the old address with my move delayed a few days until Monday. Apparently all connection to my current address is disconnected? Internet has been down since orcon informed me about the completed order. Any tips on how I can get orcon to enable my internet at my current address for a few more days? I always thought the orcon modem could work at any address so long it had a live fibre connection. Any tips appreciated. T.

Poor performance in the last few weeks
As per this post https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=49&topicid=280400&page_no=1#2620647I've noticed a drop in speed regardless of what time it is. And tonight I've noticed that my speeds outside of Vocus' network is just terrible. This is just an example of poor international connectivity(US steam servers, obviously using NZ steam servers I get exactly 165mbps).Using my gaming desktop which is hardwired and am using the supplied NF18AC to test(normally I use my ASUS RT68U) and 1 PC to rule out any other devices sapping it away. When I joined almost 3 months ago. I was getting this. What's happened here?

Flip to Slingshot connection issue
Hello - some background information to my problem. The house I moved into 9 years was set up with Telecom for internet access. It's DSL and the modem is a Technicolor TG582n. OK so we had Telecom for a while then moved to Flip who had a better deal. We were with them for many years until recently when they decided to ditch their copper services for fibre, so they moved us to Slingshot. They told us everything would remain the same, just the company providing the service would change. So that happened and also what started happening was this - every few days the internet would cut out. It just stopped even though all the connection indicators said it was working. By trial and error I figured out that if I rebooted the modem it would work fine again - for a few days anyway then the same thing again. So I got tired of this so I contacted Slingshot about it. They said that because the modem was a Telecom one(an unsupported 3rd party product) they couldn't offer any assistance. They said they could send me a Slingshot modem at my cost so they could then diagnose the problem. I told them no way - I was forced to move to them by Flip but they ASSURED me the connection would stay the same. I explained to them that the problem must be on their side because all I did was move provider and previously my set up worked fine for years. They wouldn't help unless I paid for their modem. So I'm stuck at the moment rebooting every few days which while not a huge problem is still freaking annoying and I would like to get to the bottom of why it happened. So I have a Netgear modem which I got somewhere but I'm a bit loathe to try and replace the Telecom one with it because I'm not 100% sure on how to set it up. Well I know how to set it up I just mean from the provider side of things - what details do I need to set up a connection with my computer? The Telecom modem has a setup page available in a browser window and it has my original login details from the Telecom days and that email address doesn't exist anymore. So I don't want to try changing anything in there unless I'm clear on what I need to change to another modem. Basically I have a double wall plate with a phone socket and a DSL socket which is where I plug the original Telecom modem into and it's worked fine through Telecom and Flip but now Slingshot has given me this connection problem. I may not have given enough information for help from anyone but I can always add to this explanation if anyone can shed some light on this. Cheers :)

Switching to Stuff Fibre but concern about existing mesh network setup
Hi I am currently with 2 degrees and am considering switching to Stuff Fibre. My current home setup has three Fritzbox 7490 connected as mesh network. I want to retain the setup because each Fritzbox is also ethernet connected to different devices in different rooms. With the new Stuff Fibre, it is going to come with ASUS RT-AC59U, does anyone know whether it is easy or difficult to reconfigure it? thanks.

Orcon IPv6 outages?
Are Orcon having issues with their IPv6 network? v4 has been working fine, but for the past few days v6 keeps dropping. Rebooting the router fixes it, but it only lasts a couple hours before dropping again. The router logs has this message: 'dhcp6c: client6_send: transmit failed: Network is unreachable'.Using the supplied NF18ACV netcomm router, on Fibre.

Static IP with Stuff - broken reverse DNS, they won't set it up.
Just a grizzle. I've had stuff fibre for a year, with a static IP. I thought I'd throw caution to the wind and try running a mail server at home again -- it was so much fun* in the 2000s.To improve mail deliverability I'd need reverse DNS for my IP - currently it's default-rdns.vocus.co.nz which of course doesn't resolve to anything at all.The helpdesk tells me that reverse DNS is a business feature. Is this common across Vocus consumer connections? Broken reverse DNS and static IPs that you can't get a PTR set on?[*] well, not as painful as it is these days, and I'm still bitter about Google's "free gmail for your domain" bait-and-switch

Please help - Client trying to connect via Slingshot
Hi, I'm hoping someone here can help connect a client of mine. He has put a house on a subdivided plot and is wanting a new copper connection and has been in contact with Slingshot but things are going around in circles for weeks apparently - four orders sent to Chorus all rejected. Is there anyone that can help that works at Slingshot or @Chorusnz who can specify the correct order type that should be submitted so he can tell whoever needs to know at Slingshot what they should be asking for? I've tried contacting Chorus directly but of course that didn't get very far (I didn't expect it to). My client has provided me with the four Chorus order numbers - 75171401753766507539113975433011Apparently all rejected because of the wrong order type being submitted. There is a copper line run from the pole to the house and both ends just need terminating by Chorus (and an ETP box installed as the dwelling is new on site) The phone jack is wired back to the ETP position.
