I am with contact energy fibre in Auckland. I see that the Vocus list of ISPs doesn't mention contact. However I have seen the name Vocus in my settings.I updated to a generic firmware for my NF18ACV router. I didn't realise this was a bad idea. I was able to get the internet working afterwards, but not my home phone. This is the firmware I updated to.NF18ACV-NC2-R6B17.ENWhat's my next move? I either need to confirm that contact is Vocus, and update the firmware, or get the SIP settings to make my home phone work.

NF18ACV 5ghz Wifi crashes under load?
Hiya, we've just got slingshot UFB installed and are currently using the default NF18ACV as a wifi router atm. Under load it seems to crash the 5ghz wifi when i transfer files over the network via the 5g, i.e Computer to computer, not over the internet. (While yes this isnt ideal, its handy for transfering movies to my laptop etc.) It will cap out the Upload/download for a minute or two then suddenly the 5g will just lose internet access as well as network access( i.e cant even connect to router itself while connected.), If you disconnect from it you cannot reconnect to the 5g until a complete reboot of the router. 2.4 works perfectly fine during this btw.Has anyone had experiance with this, or any ideas that might help? Our old router always handled this fine (netgear D7000) but we need the homeline POts from the NF18ACV (because Slingshot do their Homeline via the RGW), and ideally dont wanna add another router to our setup. Router is running all default settings that were assigned when we received itManufacturer:NetComm WirelessProduct Class:NF18ACVSerial Number:181122510059Build Timestamp:180718_1140Software Version:NF18ACV.NC.Vocus-R6B038.ENBootloader (CFE) Version:1.0.38-118.8DSL PHY and Driver Version:A2pv6F039v.d26rVDSL PROFILE:No profileWireless Driver Version:7.35.260.64013Voice Service Version:VoiceUptime:0D 4H 7M 9SOn a side note: the router/ONT is in the corner of our house -Plus this seem to be the catalyst for an upgrade -so have been considering running a line to set up a AP in the middle of the house(its 7mx15m house so pretty small), probably a Grandstream GWN7610, and using the NF18ACV as just a router and disabling the wifi functionality. Would this be overkill, or a better alternative?Cheers

Slingshot account terminated in error - lost email account - be careful porting landline number.
HiI decided to port my Slingshot land line number to 2talk cloud voip service. However this process caused my Slingshot account and ADSL line to be terminated and for my wife to loose her @slingshot.co.nz email address.Slingshot are in the process of reconnecting me but now in the lap of the Chorus gods - upto 10 working days... Also with no promise of getting the email address back.As you can imagine loosing your primary email address of 14 years is causing major distress.Any ideas what can be done?(Don't tell me I shouldn't depend upon ISP email...) God awful latency with Slingshot
Hey, My flatmate signed a 1 year contract with a $20 pw Slingshot internet plan. I don't know what happened exactly, but he said the router was acting like crap and they replaced it and he ended up adding a wireless range extender upstairs even though we live in a tiny townhouse. It is okay but at night the latency turns to crap. It seems to spike up and down around 9pm and then go to crap from 10 pm onwards.Online games are usually about 54ms - 110ms depending on server. The spikes I've been getting have been 250 - 350ms, and it just doesn't let up. It jumps around like this for hours and it absolutely sucks.I don't know what to do because he has implied that we're locked into a contract and I know slingshot is going to give me the runaround and blame our computers or what we're doing.I just wondered if anyone has any theories about what is happening, or any advice, in case there is something I can do to improve it? Never had this problem before but I've never gone with slingshot because imo it has a reputation for this crap. Thanks in advance.

Before anyone asks why; I have a perfectly good Netcom NFV18ACV but its wireless is hopeless so got this Tenda.I would like to see if it works on Fibre but so far no good. The friendly staff at Slingshot advised my username and password for WAN but when I go to NFV18ACV WAN settings I can put anything I like in the password box and it stays connected.Other threads and even Slingshot own help says username anything@slingshot.co.nz pwd anythingSo can anyone clarify what is absolutely necessary?

Moving house - Orcon : Did i create a bad situation? Trying to cancel and replace
Hi guys,Any comments appreciated.I'm moving houses over this weekend within Auckland Central, and took the opportunity to cancel and replace my Orcon plan to upgrade and take advantage of some deals available on glimp.co.nz. They somehow don't offer existing customers these discount deals even though I am well out of the contract period. So I requested a new connection Gigantic - Fibre at address B (did this on 2 July).Cancelled my current Orcon Fibre 100 plan at address B effective 9th July. (also requested on 2 July). So far not much communication from Orcon to advise me exactly when I'll get connection at the new place (it has an existing ONT unit - looks to be connected).I officially get all my stuff into the new place on Monday 6th July.As a lot us have been getting used to the comforts of working from home, I'm wondering how long exactly would I go without the internet. Have I created a bad situation?Any tips on getting this prioritized by Chorus/Orcon? I really do need the internet for my job.Terence.

Netcomm NF18 much faster than Pfsense router
Hi all - I recently switched to Orcon Gigantic fibre, and I would like to keep my Pfsense router in the loop if possible, but I can only achieve 10% of the speed I can get via the Orcon-supplied modem. I am using the same cables for the speedtests which are performed using the desktop app. I presume it is a setting I haven't got right, but I have spent 10 hours trying different settings without success. I would be very grateful if someone could look at the attached pics and hopefully point me in the right direction.CheersSteveEdit: I mistakenly assumed the image captions would show up - the second speedtest is obviously the Pfsense router. Please let me know if any other pics or info is required

Orcon 5-10 working days for business broadband connection
I'm moving into a new office which has an ONT installed. I've been advised that the new connection will take 5-10 working days. That seems a long time to me. Is that wait time standard across all Telcos? It's been a while since I've done this.

Orcon vs Stuff gigabit plans
Hi guys,Just after an opinion on the 2 gigabit plans as my current plan is up and looking to upgrade Orcon $84.95 + $5/mo for Google wifi. NF-18 modem, $250 early term fee. 12 month contractStuff $89.95/mo but first 6 months 1/2 price. Unknown standard modem but option to get an Asus rt-ax3000 for $299. 12 month contract $99 early term fee I have a 150m2 house that my current Huawei HG659 struggles to cover so have a TP-link powerline adaptor (wouldnt need this with the google wifi and maybe not with the asus though). Have a couple TVs, couple computers, a few phones/tablets and a bunch of smart bulbs, heaters, switches, cams, etc. Anythying else I should consider? Need to keep the cost down so these 2 looked good Cheers

Netgear Orbi with Orcon?
I recently switched to Orcon from Bigpipe and I can't get my Orbi working as a router. Currently I've got the Orbi in AP mode connected to the Orcon-supplied router. This works, but I'd prefer to just use the Orbi.I tried the settings listed on the PBTech page but no joy.Has anyone got it working? Thanks.

Orcon artificially throttling Netflix 4K?
I have done a bit of research over the past week here in CHCH, namely the bitrates of the Netflix Originals 'Control z' and 'Cursed' streamed from three different ISPs.Here are my results;- Me: Orcon 1000/500, 2018 Samsung 4K TV app - both 11.44mb/s- Cousin in CHCH: Orcon 100/20, 2017 Samsung 4K TV app - both 11.44mb/s- best mate: Spark 100/20, 2018 LG TV app - both 15.25mb/s- Brother's flat in CHCH: 2degrees 1000/500, 2020 QLED Samsung (jealous) - both 15.25mb/s (signed in with my premium Netflix account) I don't know fully what goes on, from a technical standpoint, behind the scenes with ISPs and Netflix caches, but it does appear that something is not right with Orcon. Out of three different ISP's checked here in Chch, ONLY Orcon streamed at a lower bitrate when playing the same Netflix Ultra HD content. Is it realistically possible the Orcon could be artificially throttling Netflix back to a slightly lower bitrate?

Nighthawk R7000p + Orcon fibre 900 down / 400 up = 50-70 down / 500 up. SO SLOW!
I've spent the last 24 hours trying to find a solution. Paid $125 to Netgear support, only to be told to update my firmware. And topics on here are kind of similar but not quite, and haven't found a solution as of yet.So, switched to Orcon this week. Gigantic plan, 900 d / 400 u. On my main workstation (iMac) I'm only yielding 50-70mbs down / 500mbs+ u.R7000p connected to the ONT.Running firmware up-to-date as of 29/07/2020 - V1.3.2.124_10.1.64My iMac desktop is connected to the R7000p via ethernet cable.DHCP connection.VLAN ID 10, priority 0.IPv6.QoS disabled.Tried Cable switches on both ends. R7000p has been factory restored multiple times.Speedtests via nighthawk app are 300mbs+ d / 300mbs+ uSpeedtest via Xbox one is 280mbs d / 58mbs u (would love the 500 here TBH)Is there anything I'm missing that may be limited it to my workstation. It's driving me insane. And the so-called 'Gearheads' offered zero help in going over the settings. Hopefully I've covered all the info there, any help much appreciated.

VOIP issues on phone call
Recently when using a panosonic phone through orcons modem on a gigabyte plan, the phone call keeps dropping sound I can hear the caller but they can't hear me. If I hang up and call back it works ok. I haven't had any problems with this before on Vodafone but only since switching to orcon. Has anyone else has this problem?

Returning Ethernet Cables when switching ISPs
I'm about to move from Orcon to 2degrees and as part of the agreement, I have to return all the hardware. The question is, does this include all the Ethernet cables or will they charge a fee for them not being returned? Asking as there is an Ethernet cable from the ONT to the Orcon modem and I'm not sure if that's from Chorus of from Orcon. (It's a flat white cable)

Anybody switched from 2Degrees/Snap to Orcon?
I'm looking at swapping from 2Degrees 900/400 to Orcon 900/400 with the extra Google WiFi option (extra $5/month).From what I understand Orcon don't use CGNAT so I won't need a static IP any longer.Has anybody made a similar swap? ie 2Degrees to Orcon? Before I make the jump I'm interested to hear whether the performance is roughly equivalent.
