This is what i think i Know.....So I am in central city Tauranga where UFB (ultra fast fibre from Wel Group in Hmailton) have laid the fibre in Tauranga. UFB are in bed with truspower and some other local isp's. When i call slingshot they say i cant get fibre under the chorus search....and it says i dont have fibre?....ok with me???.................Under the UFB search we do have fibre..I know I do I watched them lay it......So can I only go with the people who are in bed with the guys that lay the fibre?it makes no sense whatsover to me? Why cant Slingshot sign me up. Arent all these fibre layers Chorus and UFB just contracted to the GOVT to lay the damm stuff? Also very consfusing when truspower have all over their website Ultra Fast Broadband when they mean fibre. I know the difference newteen dsl and fibre but the companies are mixing the terms together.Maybe someone with more knowledge than me can advise me on what to do. I want fibre but would liek to stay with Slingshot to keep the wife happy etc.

Out of Office Auto Reply
Oh my! I am currently managing my fathers email account through webmail as he has had to be moved into a nursing home and is no longer able to monitor his account. I have been replying to and forwarding messages on his behalf. After a while the penny dropped and I thought I should see if there is an out of office feature. Low and behold there is.... well maybe not. After finding the instructions through the help and support pages http://help.slingshot.co.nz/app/answers/detail/a_id/2056/kw/webmail%20filters%20out%20of%20office/sno/1I duly followed the instructions and was informed of a successful setup. To be sure, I emailed my fathers account from my own email, but got no reply. After several re sets still no joy, but was assured (by a message at the bottom of the support page) if I was having trouble I could contact Technical support via email or 0800.A week ago I did this by phone and was told, after due on hold time, that they could not get it to work but perhaps it waited for a week of messages to arrive in the inbox and then send the auto reply to them all at once (Jeez I must be a sucker) I was told to ring back in a week if it was still not working (Today)After 1 hour on the phone, mostly on hold, I was informed they could not get the feature to work on their test machines and there was nothing they could doSorry for this but WTFIf it breaks you just walk away, I know this is the "Throw away society" but ???Anybody from Slingshot want to have a crack at it?

Slingshot fined for slamming practices
Just received:Call Plus Services Limited, trading as Slingshot, has been fined $250,000 after pleading guilty in the Auckland District Court today to 50 charges it faced under the Fair Trading Act in relation to the marketing of its telecommunications services.Between 2009 and 2011, the Commission received over 100 complaints alleging that telemarketers acting on behalf of Slingshot had breached the Fair Trading Act by either misleading customers about the service provided or by switching customers to Slingshot's services without their consent, known in this industry as "slamming".The Commission's investigation established that Slingshot exacerbated this behaviour by then vigorously pursuing payment when customers refused to pay for a service they had not agreed to acquire. In some cases Slingshot referred customers to debt collection agencies and continued demands for payment despite consumers receiving assurances from other Slingshot staff that the matter had been resolved and no further action was required. On sentencing, Judge Russell Collins said the actions of Slingshot had a "real and disturbing impact on customers in the market place." The Judge also said this case was an "excellent illustration for the need for the Fair Trading Act" and that the "conduct encouraged more barriers to competition."Commerce Commission Consumer Manager Stuart Wallace said Slingshot's actions in this case were very disappointing."This is unacceptable conduct by any trader, let alone one of Slingshot's prominence" said Mr Wallace. "A particularly concerning aspect of this offending is that Slingshot was warned by the Commission for similar conduct in December 2009."The Commission has also laid charges against Power Marketing Limited, who acted as Slingshot's marketing agent. Power Marketing Limited is defending some of the charges faced, so no further comment can be made it this time.

Low speeds to UK
I have been on VDSL for a few days now and have been generally happy with speeds of 30mb local, 14mb Oz and 10mb to USA but have had only 1mb to the UK and today I am getting jack, in fact speedtest is frozen out on 45kb. Anyone else experiencing this? I use us-unblock dns for international.

Moving out of flat - wanting to end ISP services
Hi Our flat lease ends on the 28th of Jan and our Slingshot monthly billing cycle is on/around the 22nd, is there anyway we can extend our internet for another week to finish on the 28th instead? On another note, it has been a great two years with slingshot. We have been on the naked Unlimited plan, super cheap at $90/month and we have had 99% up time. We pulled probably around 250gb/month on average between 4 people.Cheers,Tom

Switching to Slingshot Fibre
I'm currently an Xnet (WorldxChange? I don't even know what they're called any more) fibre customer. A relatively happy one, at that. Things run pretty blisteringly quick. My current plan entitles me to 60GB of data, as well as a few toll calls and some other inconsequential services. I pay $89/mo, with a $0.99 charge for every GB I use over that amount. Pretty reasonable.Imagine my delight when Slingshot came out with their NEW light speed broadband at ultra cheap prices!!!!, which offers a mighty 200GB for the same $89/mo I'm currently paying. Not long before Christmas/New Year, I filled out the form on their website and excitedly awaited my call. When no call was forthcoming, I figured I'd ring up and follow up. Guessed they were just busy with an influx of excited potential customers. They said that they're sorry, and they'd have someone from provisioning call me. Cool! When no call was forthcoming (it is now January 6th), I figured I'd ring up and follow up. Guessed they were just busy with Christmas and New Year and the like. Fair enough! They said that they're sorry, that it was pretty poor that nobody had been in touch, and they'd have someone from provisioning call me as soon as possible. Cool! When no call was forthcoming (it is now today - January 13th), I figured I'd ring up and follow up. Guessed they were just... I don't know what they were doing. This time, they said that the call should never have gone to provisioning in the first place, as "there's not currently a process to switch existing fibre customers from one company to another". Also, "the normal process would to take you down to a DSL-based service on a copper line, and then switch you to the new Fibre connection once it's all installed". Two problems with this:1. I live in a brand new subdivision. With thick, shiny new fibre cables. There are no copper wires. Anywhere.2. I currently have a functioning fibre connection. It's already installed. Chorus even came and installed a "generic" modem that they said would "work with any ISP".I kind of accepted that I wasn't going to get anywhere, and gave up. Which is why I'm here, dearest Geekzone members. My question is this - has anyone managed to switch ISPs when on fibre? Has anyone managed to switch to Slingshot from another ISP? Why don't Slingshot want my money?tldr; I've got WxC fibre and want to switch to Slingshot but "there's not currently a process to switch existing fibre customers from one ISP to another".halp

Italk will only work through softphone
HiI started a thread about this somewhere else - ( not knowing SlingShot had a section all of it's own ) , someone suggested I put it here, in the hope that someone from SS will see it.We've been using italk for a few years - it's been fairly trouble free until a few weeks ago, when someone tried to make a call with caller ID blocked (*67) . It then dialled the number - went silent for about 15 secs then gave a busy signal. After that, every call we try to make OUT does the same thing.I tried pressing *68 to undo it - that didn't work.Incoming calls are OK.I've rest back to factory defaults 3 times - 2 of those times we could make outgoing calls but only 2 or 3 times then it stopped working again. We use a SPA 122 ATA , it is not being used as a router - it is a stand-alone device that acts as the interface between our phone and our D-Link router.. A friend brought his ATA over a few days ago - it is configured with his iTalk account - he plugged it into our network and it worked OK immediately - he could ring out etc. So we figure the network / router settings are OK.I've downloaded an xlite softphone and that works ( outgoing and incoming calls ) .Contact with SS has been slow ( emails 5-6 hours apart ) and they keep suggesting re-setting to factory defaults and a couple of codec changes which didn't help.I'm at the end of my ( very) limited knowledge and we're getting to the point where we really need to be able to use our 'normal' phone - back to work, school about to start, etc .Oh FFS- an hour or so after posting this - now my softphone won't call out

Slingshot Naked Unlimiyted plan
I'm thinking about changing from TNZ 150GB to the Naked Unlimiyted 90$ plan. And as I'm heavily using P2P I'd like to know if Slingshot is throttling P2P traffic or uses any other type of shaping on the plan? How is the speed in general on this plan? Cheers,

Slingshot Moving House Woes
Hi All,I've been a Slingshot customer for over three years and moved house over the weekend. I called Slingshot ahead of time to schedule my phone and ADSL to come with me. The transfer was scheduled for Friday 24th, the guy that I spoke to assured me that this would be plenty of time and no problem.I got a call from a guy from Chorus on the Friday morning around 9am - he was connecting the phone line and just wanted to check whether the house was wired already. I got a text message shortly after 1pm letting me know that my phone line was connected and that I had a new phone number. I was under the impression that my phone number wasn't going to change. By the time we got unpacked at about 6pm we tested the phone and it was working, but no ADSL. I called the Slingshot service centre shortly after, and got through to somebody within a minute. The call went something like this:Me: "Hi, I moved house today and had the phone and ADSL scheduled to come with me today. The phone is connected but I'm not getting any ADSL connectivity. Just wondering what's going on."Her: "Can I get your address please" (I think she asked for something else too but not for my account)Me: "[Address details]"Her: "Please hold for a minute"Somewhere between ten and fifteen minutes pass only to be told:Her: "It can take a few days between your phone and ADSL to be connected"Me: "Do you know which day it will be connected? Saturday? Her: "As I said, it can take a few days between your phone and ADSL to be connected"She wouldn't give me any other details so that was it.I'm a bit confused exactly what she was doing for over ten minutes if that's all she could tell me. Her attitude and dismissive phone manner also left something to be desired. I run my business from home so ADSL connectivity is fairly important.Less than an hour later (7:50pm) got a text message saying ADSL will be connected on Monday the 27th, then at 9:13pm I got an email saying that it'll be connected on the Tuesday 28th.Not very happy about this poor service, Slingshot. TLDR:- Moving house, scheduled phone and ADSL to be moved on 24th of January- Phone line was connected around mid day on the 24th, but ADSL doesn't seem to be working- Phone number has changed, I was under the impression that it was staying the same.- Called service centre in the evening of 24th to find out if ADSL was actually connected wondering if I'd done something wrong with my configuration- Girl at call centre put me on hold long enough for a tea break- Came back after over 10 minutes to tell me that it can take a few days between phone and ADSL connection. Couldn't (or wouldn't) give me any other details.- Got email saying ADSL is now scheduled to be connected on 28th of January- Run business from home and use ADSL connection for this. Not very happy customer.

How well do the Unlimited One/ Unlimited Plans perform in Hamilton
In regards to the ADSL plans:Is the unlimited one a different pool to the unlimited plan? How do both stack up for usability during peak traffic hours in Hamilton?Would we be able to have one person game and another stream a video comfortably? How about streaming 2 videos at 720p off youtube?Does it often have outages?Currently on a 500gb plan with telecom but the cap is too small and expensive compared to other ISP's. We are outside the ufb/fibre catchment areas. We have 1 heavy facebook user, 1 who constantly streams twitch and 1 who dabbles in youtube and online gamingWe made the mistake of joining the old unleashed (unusable) plan back when it launched and are looking to avoid a situation like that again (couldn't use internet during school holidays and weekends due to limited pool size)Sorry for asking so many questions. Just looking for as much information before I lock us into a 12 month death sentence and wish to be as informed as possible. Most of the information I can find is 6 months old and I know all the ISP's have upped their game since then so looking for a fair indication of their current performance. So please, share your experiences with either of these plans.

Slingshot fibre unlimited plus traffic shaped?
So FINALLY after much hassle got my fibre connected last night and while we're still dealing with a phone that can't ring out (fault lodged waiting until monday) for the most part it's great except...traffic shaping or something is going on.Steam - 11mb/s, Origin 11mb/s, Utorrent (actual linux isos) 2.8/2.9mb/s, Filehosters (with premium) 2.8/2.9mb/s The worst I saw was last night after getting it connected where I got 180kb/s I mean what the heck? lol and best on those above has been 3mb/s or bursts upto 3.2 then is instantly knocked back to 2.8.Running a torrent alongside a filehost gives them both 2.8mb/s or so for the most part.Mentioned this to the guy I spoke to about my phoneline fault today and he basically didn't seem interested and just said it's been lodged as a fault as well.So am I imagining it or does this seem like traffic shaping on a plan that isn't meant to have it? (their website used to say such a thing and it's why I went for the "plus" plan to avoid any hassles like this)Also as a side note uploading to youtube is TERRIBLE (300kb/s give or take)

what is the point in the network status page?
Around 1pm today when I was home for lunch I noticed the internet was down. Went to restart the router noticed only a power light on. Checked the phone no dial tone. Rung slingshot ran around in circles and jumped through hoops to get them to log a fault and send a tech out. Next availabe tech was not till tomorrow. That's all fine. When I got home from work I asked the neighbour if his was out also he sad it was. Just now I checked the network status page on slingshots page and they are reporting no faults. Checked telecom they reported no faults in nelson. Why do they even bother with the network status page if the are not updated. Or will it get updated when the tech. comes?

Bad Line Speed Advice (1914 down 687 up)
Hey Guys,So lately i've been having terrible line speeds with slingshot on their AYCE plan. Screenshot is below showing all the xDSL statistics.I'm not too knowledgeable about all this, but I've tried an isolation test (except I was unable to find a 'Master Socket') by disconnecting all devices connected into the phone jacks, and connecting the modem in directly. I did this test with all the jacks in the house just to make sure it wasn't a problem with the jack itself, and because I couldn't find the master socket or a junction box (It must be hiding somewhere under the house or somewhere I can't see I guess?).I'm living on the corner of Trafalgar Street/Forbes Street in Royal Oak/Onehunga.I have no idea whether my connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin.I do have an alarm in the house, although the speed problems have only arisen lately.I have also been having rather frequent disconnections lately (sometimes one a day at a random time, other days 20 in a row within an hour). When I called slingshot a while back, they said they could send out a technician, however it might incur charges depending on what they find, so I was keen to get some advice on here before heading in that direction. It may also be worth noting that there have been quite a few road works around me lately. They are only upgrading the footpath, but my first gut feeling was that there may be some connection, so I thought I would let you know.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.Cheers,si2zle
