I've been with Slingshot for a couple of years now and I usually had pretty good speeds. My speeds dropped massively a while back (down to 1.0-1.2 Mb/s). I ended up calling them the other day to see what was happening and they said that I had been cabnetized and this was the reason for the speed drop. They said they could fix it, but then told me that I'd have to change my phone number (I'd originally ported my phone number from an old house). I was then told that I'd have to pay 19 cents/minute to have calls forwarded from my old number to my new number. Any ideas what's going on? Is this normal? I have read that some numbers are not compatible with some exchanges.... ...but the point is that I had good internet (a capped plan BTW), a ported number as my home phone and it all worked fine. Then someone, somewhere changed the network topology (which I couldn't care less about) and now I'm responsible for paying the charges for this?
