Contacting Chorus or options for increasing broadband speed

Hi all,

I have recently moved house away from my lovely urban fibre connection to ~1km out of Te Awamutu where I now have limited internet. I'm running out of ideas with my internet connection and I'm hoping that someone can put me in touch with the right people to talk to, or give me some options I may have missed

So far I have tried...

- Wireless broadband with the local supplier Lightwire. Unfortunately according to the installer to get a connection I would need to cut down 2 trees on my property to enable a possible line-of-sight to the tower, install a mast out at a particular point in the paddock to get on that created LOS (and then conduit back to the house), and then it would only work for a couple of years because the LOS passes just between 2 large trees several properties over which are expected to grow and block the signal.

- Wireless 3G/4G with Vodafone/Spark. There is no usable Spark signal and an intermittent 1-2 bars of Vodafone. As an aside I am having to run a Vodafone SureSignal to get reception for my work cellphone. I have tried a Cel-Fi unit but it doesnt work with the layout of the house. The little bit of reception I can get is located at a window in the middle of my house so the Cel-Fi can only boost it for one side of the house.

- Fibre. Fibre has been laid directly past my driveway to the local rural school ~7km down the road. Upon inquiring with Chorus via Slingshot they responded it would cost $25k to connect to it, and I would also have to run the line from the gateway to my house. So not a financially feasible option for me.

...Which leaves me with Slingshot ADSL. I have had it recently connected and am currently on a whopping 2-3Mbs (enough to get the SureSignal working). The technician that Slingshot sent was very helpful and told me the speed was because I am connected to a cabinet in the centre of town ~6km away rather than a closer one 1.5km away on Fairview Rd. The one on Fairview Rd apparently needs upgrading before I could be connected to it, and if it was upgraded I would get much higher speeds and maybe even VDSL . He said I could ask and see if there were any upgrades planned in the future for that cabinet.

I have contacted Chorus and inquired about future cabinet upgrades and they have been kind and responsive but said that a request needs to be made by an ISP. So I contacted Slingshot and they also have been kind and responsive but said I should contact Chorus directly. And now I'm going round in circles....

So, does anyone have any contacts at Slingshot or Chorus who would be able to look into this for me? Possibly get it moved up in priority? Several other people on the road are in almost the same situation as myself and are very interested in getting faster internet options if they become available.

Thanks very much,

Michael
