Anybody notice an increase in speeds using alternative DNS servers.

Hey guys.

Please note I am not advertising their service, this is just my personal opinion. I'm not involved with any of these companies. We have Slingshot's AYCE plan.I'm assuming we have used the standard Slingshot/Callplus DNS configuration, becuase I haven't fooled around with that part of our internet settings up until now. Here's the question. I really enjoy streaming channels like the main BBC channels from the UK over our internet connection, and I have been doing so via VPN connection for years even before we got AYCE.The Provider I used (Zattoo) Got wise, and appear to be blocking VPN connections/Tor connections now from what I have seen.I did a google search on ways to get round this, and I stumbled on something called Tunlr. It's a free DNS service (I'm not 100% sure how that works, so please feel free to explain to me) Not only did it give me access to Zattoo at my full ADSL2+ speeds, it also improved my latency and speeds locally.I used to get on average 10-11mb down. With Tunlr enabled I get 13mb-15mb down. Upload stays mostly the same. I've done tests with Tunlr and Default DNS.I also took out a paid subscription with Unblock-US, and it also works for Channel 7 On Demand from Aus, which was a suprise, Yet again a similar result with the speedtest.

Why is this?

Is it just a coincidence?

Thanks
